Dr. Teresa Penbrooke helps the people who help other people, creators, audiences, and communities thrive. She cares about things that help all of us re-create our bodies, minds, and spirits on a daily basis.
Do you, your colleagues, or your students need some more executive development, personal wellbeing, or leadership strategies? How about mentoring, training, or support for living life at your fullest - through education, facilitation, music, yoga, mindful meditation, or physical movement skills?
Whether you are traveling/touring, working hard, leading communities or organizations, or managing a household, you can book some time to learn more and focus on how to re-create your life and your body, mind, an spirit on a daily basis.
Dr. Teresa L. Penbrooke can help you focus on how to "walk the talk" in your own life first so you can live a better life and help others. She can help you address health or stress issues, or deal with bad habits or negative coping mechanisms you may have developed throughout your life - such as poor eating, not moving as much as you should, overworking, consuming too much alcohol or other drugs or non-healthy foods, lack of good stress management, or other self-sabotaging behaviors. You can't create and function well in the world if you don't walk the talk in your own life!
Dr. Penbrooke has a BS in Kinesiology, a Masters degree in Organizational Management, and a PhD in social sciences (Recreation Management and Planning/Parks/Preventive Health/Tourism from North Carolina State University College of Natural Resources), with a focus on integration of individual, community, and public access to leisure, nutrition, nature, physical activity, social engagement, and tourism as preventive public health. She is also a certified Change Management Specialist (CMS®) and a certified yoga teacher (RYT-2000), and regularly integrates other practices such as Pilates, eastern and western holistic medicine, tarot, and reiki, and evidence-based science into custom approaches.
Professionally, Teresa has led various organizations. She was the Executive Director of ActivEnviro (previously GP RED), a 501(c) not-for profit organization, and its Healthy Communities Research Group, until March 2026. She spent most of her mid-professional career leading consulting groups for community quality of life planning projects, after working for public agencies for six years. Teresa was Founder and CEO for 23 years for GreenPlay LLC (1999 - 2022), a national management consulting firm that completed over 650 community master and strategic master plans for public parks, recreation, tourism, and related organizations in the USA and internationally. She is a current Board Member for the World Leisure Organization (www.WorldLeisure.org), and a Fellow with the American Academy of Parks and Recreation Administrators (www.AAPRA.org).
Teresa has taught a variety of personal fitness, wellbeing, yoga, and nutritional concepts over the years in private, class, university, association, and community settings, and led hundreds of outdoor recreation, river rafting, and travel tours since 1983. She is also a musician/singer/songwriter, as featured on other Herons Haunt Creator pages.
Teresa specializes in identifying, translating, and applying evidence-based research to real life practice applications. She offers individual personalized training sessions in wellbeing management, strategic leadership development, along with integration of practices for meditation, improved nutrition, yoga, and nature immersion. She offers special retreats and custom classes as needed.
